Aya

AYA is an independent feature that delves into the horrors of human trafficking. The film follows the anguish and resilience of AYA as she is dragged through the hell of being trafficked.

AYA (Danica De La Rey) plans to meet with BAYODE (Richard Gau) whoshe’d meet online. This against the wishes and advice of her best friend PAMELA (Keketso Montshiwa) who decides for safety reasons to accompany Aya against her will. What they both don’t know is that Bayode has other plans. He is planning to take Aya and prepare her to be sold to MIKA (Charlie Bouguenon).

When Bayodes’ plans are stifled by the presence of Pamela he has to take some drastic action to ensure he makes the sale. Over a period of 2 days using drugs and manipulation he chips away at Aya’s spirit before he has to deliver her to the buyer.

Script-To-Screen in 8 Days

After a frustration with waiting “to make something” a decision was taken to be more proactive, more INDIE.
So, Director, Writer, and Producer Khalid EL-Jelailati locked himself away for 2 Days and wrote the script.

The Monday after the script was completed Khalid and fellow Indie Filmmaker Waleed went on a
cinematic frenzy preparing to go into production only having 5 Days to get everything needed together
before the proverbial film reel would be pulled out of the can.

Finally the day of production, Friday 16th Feb 2018 only a week since the idea was formed
we went into production. Filming the script over the 3 Day weekend.
And the results of that threadbare and noble grind was, AYA.
